Psychological Therapy

Psychological therapy develops constructive ways in which clients can handle the sensitive topics that arise in their life.  Most people have times when relationship issues, work/life balance, new circumstances or any one of life’s components can just seem too much.  It is at these times that therapy can help.  If anything is causing significant pain or upset for more than a few days then talking with a qualified therapist is likely to be of benefit.

Appropriate Psychology works with clients so that we tackle issues together, as a team.  By being able to draw on a range of disciplines our clients experience genuine, often profound and long lasting change.  Whether you wish to rid yourself of an irritating habit, build self confidence in one or more areas, or address more personal deep seated issues, we can achieve great results by working together.

So do call today for a chat on 01626 331 725 or just complete the Enquiry Form below. There is no charge for an initial 20 – 30 minute consultation, be that over the phone or face-to-face.

Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a personal, powerful tool that clients can use to affect deep changes in their lives.   You will be helped to drift into deep relaxation, a state where your mind is highly receptive to accepting new perspectives and solving even the most established problems.

Hypnotherapy is effective because it accesses the powerful non-conscious mind.  It is in the non-conscious where we store the beliefs, habits, behaviours and memories of a whole lifetime. The conscious mind tries to handle all our problems but with a fraction of the resources that are available to the non-conscious mind.  Consequently, our consciousness sometimes struggles and so do we.

Whether you call your non-conscious mind your id, ego or inner chimp doesn’t really matter.  What does count is recognizing the area where the real power of the mind lies.  Hypnotherapy helps you work with your non-conscious to defeat problems that have been beyond conscious control for years.  Hypnotherapy can be immensely liberating and the state of hypnosis soothing and enjoyable.

Appropriate Psychology only works with hypnotherapists who are accredited by the British Society for Clinical and Academic Hypnosis, a body strictly for health care professionals who are trained in hypnosis. So no quacks, no amateurs, no nonsense; just thoroughly trained, qualified therapists.  You are safe with us.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness traces its roots to Buddhism and the Sanskrit term smṛti (meaning ‘mindfulness’). This peaceful concept stresses attentiveness to the present rather than looking over your shoulder at past events. This approach helps to develops a clear focus on the sensations that lie at the heart of confusion.  we work on issues in a state of what is called non-forgetfulness.

Mindfulness is non-judgemental.  It uses meditation to bringn thoughts, emotions, sensations and issues under your control.  Working together we will use mindfulness to reinforce behaviours through a tranquil but powerful use of self-control.

Psychologists see mindfulness as primarily a mental state, to which we can return to handle old concerns with new tools every time concerns arise within what is called your attentional field.  Thus, solutions lie within your own powers.

Mindfulness can be used to alleviate a variety of mental and physical conditions, including anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, seemingly irrational fears and the prevention of relapse into depression, anger and drug addiction. In Buddhism mindfulness is sometimes seen as an antidote to delusion.  When teamed with a clear understanding of yourself and your circumstances, mindfulness can help realize great personal satisfaction and spiritual comfort.

At Appropriate Psychology we will work together to call to mind the tools necessary for your own problem resolution.  You will be able to retain these tools for your own use as necessary

Psychotherapy

Often known as talking therapy, Psychotherapy is a way of exploring feelings, thoughts, moods and behaviours through guided conversation.  At Appropriate Psychology we make no judgement on anything you may, or may not, have done. Instead issues are addressed psychologically enabling people to regain control of life and react positively to challenging situations.

It is not unusual for the immediate concerns of clients to be connected with other issues.  This leads to a broader exploration of links, for example, that connect you with events in the past.  The interactive format of psychotherapy allows the assessment of the causes, influences, triggers, and resolutions of people’s problems.  Working together the therapist and client will use a range of deepening communicative techniques to thoroughly explore and re-examine problem areas and their connectivity with and influence over other aspects of life.

Although usually associated with targeted conversation psychotherapy, in skilled hands, can also make use of art, role play, music even story telling.  It is not unusual to explore psychometric instruments and incorporate results to inform discussion, understanding and progress. Methods are used proactively and reactively to maximize client benefit.
